You have probably heard of this amazing attraction in the center of Parikia. Panagia Ekatontapyliani is one of the first Christian churches in Greece. The first structure dates back to 326 and it was initiated by St. Helen, the mother of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. Its name was inspired by the 99 doors and windows that the church features. Ekatontapyliani means 100 gates.
Today Panagia Ekatontapyliani attracts thousands of visitors every year, even as a daily trip from other islands and as a church, it is still functional.
Panagia Ekatontapyliani is located 350 meters away from our Pension Paros Anna Spanou; 400 meters away from our House in Castle and 1,5 km away from our Marble Villas.
A part of old Parikia used to be a castle, situated on a small hill overlooking the bay. Today, its picturesque remains are a “must” for a visit and for many pictures. It was built in 1260 by the Venetian Duchy of Naxos when Paros Island was one of his properties. The interesting aspect of this attraction is the remaining wall. It was built using large pieces of marble, taken from an ancient temple. Few steps away, you will find the picturesque chapel of Kimisis Theotokou overlooking the sea.
Frankish Castle is located almost next to our House in Castle; 400 meters away from our Paros Pension Anna Spanou and about 2 km away from our Marble Villas.
The Archaeological Museum of Paros is also situated in Parikia and it is more interesting than you might think. It features artefacts found not only in Paros but in Antiparos as well. There is a selection of statues, sarcophagus and tombs. However, probably the most interesting are the artefacts used in the daily life of the ancient local people like coins etc. It is highly recommended for a visit.
The museum is located 500 meters away from our House in Castle; 400 meters away from our Paros Pension Anna Spanou and about 1,5 km away from our Marble Villas.
This monastery is an attraction by itself however, its location is an additional unique aspect. It is located on the side of the mountain overlooking Parikia. The view from up there attracts many visitors of our island but, we suggest you visit the monastery as well. The road to reach Agioi Anargyroi Monastery is uphill, therefore you should drive with caution. The final destination however will be rewarding.
Regarding the distances, it is situated 2,5 km away from our Paros Pension Anna Spanou; 3 km away from our Marble Villas and 3 km away from our House in Castle.
